Our
Projects
Kōnea Ola supports various local projects that benefit the restoration economy and are nutritive to our communities. Each project is unique yet supplemental and complementary to other project's.
Greenwood Research
Greenwood Research specializes in gathering, preparing, and storing native seeds. Situated within the Kealakekua Forest Nursery, Greenwood supplies a range of native seeds to support restoration projects island-wide. As an emerging startup, Greenwood aspires to expand its operations, offering seeds to additional clients seeking native varieties. Recognizing the increasing need for plant materials, their goal is to establish a robust seed stock for prompt distribution during emergency response initiatives.

This initiative focuses on the restoration of upland native bird habitat within the South Kona region of Hawaiʻi.
The RCPP program represents a collective effort to address critical conservation challenges and safeguard the ecological integrity of our precious landscapes. Through strategic partnerships and community engagement, Kōnea Ola along with it's partners are implementing innovative conservation practices that promote biodiversity, restore habitat connectivity, and enhance ecosystem resilience.
Waʻa Development
Waʻa Development is in the process of creating a 54-acre agroforestry venture, with 14 acres designated for a community-centered demonstration initiative. This showcase area will feature native forest species and Polynesian introduced canoe crops, which hold cultural importance. Positioned within the ʻamaʻu zone of the traditional Kona Field System, this project also explores the cultivation and promotion of māmaki herbal tea. The aim is to exemplify the potential for other landowners interested in revitalizing their land with native flora and integrating sustenance crops through intercropping techniques.
